“Two enormous green eyes had appeared among the leaves." Finished in a night [07 Aug 2011|01:00pm]

[ mood | artistic ]

Gouache paints with coloured pencil on watercolour paper.

Last night I had some time to myself, and while I used it as I should - I painted, I decided not to work on the next Oz painting (which is all ready to go and what I was planning on doing) but rather a little something just for me.

I had recently decided I wanted to use this vignette drawing for the illustration that’ll go on the slipcase. And with the free time I had, I thought I’d be able to do it in the night... and I was!

Not much to say about it... I’m happy with it. The green of the leaves and Dobby’s eyes, will go great with the new green motif the book will have going for it, which will make more sense once I’ve finished the new cover painting, which will likely be the painting after the next... or at the very latest after the one after that!

Anyway, here it is:

Mudbloods and Murmurs Completed [11 Jul 2011|07:30am]

[ mood | artistic ]

I finished this piece last week, but because I for some reason feel the need to post a chapter illustration with it’s accompanying vignette drawings, I had to wait till today to actually post it. But it’s finished and now the drawing are as well.

Since it’s beginning stages, I’ve been pleased with Ron, it’s one of my favorite drawings (and now paintings) I’ve done of him. It’s unfortunate it’s such an embarrassing moment for the character, but at the same time, it’s just so him. And frankly, there’s still plenty of time left in the series for Ron to have more heroic moments.

Anyway, here are the vignette drawings and painting, for Chapter 7 of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - Mudbloods and Murmurs

As usual, click to see larger versions

Next I have Chapter 4 of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in the works. I’m hoping to have it completed this week.

Bonus Potter Art [22 Feb 2011|08:37pm]

[ mood | artistic ]

I decided on what the bonus illustration would be for the Chamber of Secrets illustrations. I was thinking it would be fun to do a "photo" of Lockhart - signed and everything ;o)

Feels Like it's Been Forever [26 Dec 2010|10:34am]

Feels Like it's Been Forever

It feels like it's been a long time since I posted, even though I've been doing much better this month than the last. November I think I posted twice at most. Anywho....

As I've spoken about multiple times, I've been slowly plugging away at some art. I finished the next Potter-Painting a little while ago, but was waiting to share it till I finished the vignette drawings that go with it. Which I finished the day before Christmas. And now that the holiday has past, I had the time to post 'em ;o)

So here they are, the paintings and vignette drawings for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter Six: Gilderoy Lockhart.

As usual - clicky to see em' biggie   -er

I hope (if you celebrate it) you had a Merry Christmas! Yay baby Jesus! :o)

New Potter-Painting [31 May 2010|01:16pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

New Potter Painting

Still plugging away at Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, here is Chapter Four: At Flourish & Blotts. There's alot going on in this scene, which I both like and dislike about it; lots of great details and whatnot, but unless you're looking at it up-close, things get muddled together and lost. When I first started it, I wasn't sure I'd get everyone in the scene that I wanted. Luckily I only had to cut one person from the original plans, the annoyed looking shop keeper of Flourish & Blotts. But it was an easy sacrifice to make considering everyone else mentioned made it in!

A little heads up: Due to timeline issues, I was forced to stop this now finished painting half way though it in favor of another project. I've since finished both projects and only now am finally able to get them posted. That’s why it’s been a while since I’ve had new Potter Art to share. Also, it might be a little while before the next comes along cause I’m currently in rehearsals for a musical.

New Painting [24 Jan 2010|03:24pm]

[ mood | satisfied ]

As mentioned in previous posts, this was supposed to be a The Wonderful Wizard of Oz painting, but it got scrapped due to being crappy. I'm re-working it, and it'll be the next illustration I post. But in the mean time, I had this new Potter-Painting all drawn out ready to be painted, so I went ahead and did it.

If you'll allow me a moment to gush a little, I'm very happy with this painting. I struggle with drawing structural stuff, I prefer organic things like people, animals and plants. So I was a little intimidated when I decided I needed to make the focus of this painting be the Weasley's home; the chapter is named "The Burrow" after all, it just seemed like the thing to do. Fortunately for me, the Burrow doesn't follow the laws of gravity or structural accuracy, but I still had to make sure it looked right. And over all, I think it meets the requirements.

I think my biggest disappointment is that because Molly is so far away, some of the details from the original drawing got lost. Unfortunate, but it all still came together pretty well.  Anyway, here is the illustration for the third chapter of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as well as the vignette drawings that go with it.
